Carroll ready to bounce back

Manchester United's Roy Carroll is keen to make amends for an error in midweek.

Northern Ireland goalkeeper Roy Carroll is determined to bounce back after conceding a soft goal in Wednesday's 3-3 draw with Austria.

Carroll's error was largely responsible for Ireland's failure to claim all three points but the current Manchester United number one is keen for an early opportunity to redeem himself.

Manchester United face Birmingham at the weekend and Carroll is determined to make the right impression on boss Sir Alex Ferguson.

''Everyone knows playing for Northern Ireland means the world to me and to make a mistake like that really hurt,'' conceded Carroll.

''I was so disappointed, not just to concede that goal but also for my team-mates who had fought so hard to get us ahead.

''It's up to me to bounce back from this and I am confident that I can do that and go on to play really well for Manchester United and Northern Ireland.

''I am mentally strong and hopefully will be playing against Birmingham to show what I can do.''
