Sochaux continue striker search

Sochaux are still searching for a replacement for striker Pierre-Alain Frau, but are glad to have fended off approaches from Manchester United and Chelsea for youngster Jeremy Menez.

Frau's (pictured) move to Lyon has left a huge void at Sochaux, and they are desperate to bring in a replacement striker.

Sochaux chairman Jean-Claude Plessis admitted that they failed to sign Daniel Moreira as they could not compete with Toulouse financially.

The one bright spark of the summer has been that they have managed to keep youngster Jeremy Menez, who was wanted by both Manchester United and Chelsea.

"Daniel Moreira was our priority, but he preferred Toulouse. I must admit, I was not good for us," said Plessis.

"We were not able to compete with them for him.

"Our main reinforcement is Jeremy Menez. We managed to keep him despite moves from Manchester United.

"Chelsea also called me recently."

Tunisian international Ziad Jaziri is the latest name to be in the frame to replace Frau, with the Gaziantepspor striker reportedly close to agreeing on a move to France.
