Saints not in for Ole

SOUTHAMPTON are in denial, with chairman Rupert Lowe saying they have not made any offers for a string of players including Manchester United striker Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Media sources have connected Southampton with the likes of Solskjaer, Shaun Goater of Manchester City, Nottingham Forest`s Marlon Harewood and Lazio`s Gaizka Mendieta who is currently on loan at Barcelona.

Monaco are ready to listen to offers for some of their players in a bid to ease their financial woes and reports claimed Shabani Nonda and Franck Jurietti had caught manager Gordon Strachan`s eye.

Lowe, though, has moved to distance themselves from the reports, saying: "I don't know anything about either of them. We have not made any bid.

"Nor have we made any approach for Solskjaer or Harewood or any of the others.

"It is simply a case that people think we are the only club with money to spend and they are trying to stitch two ends to meet up in the middle.

"We are looking to bring in a couple of players but it is becoming increasingly difficult to improve the squad within our budget.

"There is no point signing someone for the sake of it. We will only do so if they will improve us but we do have a few possibilities in mind," Lowe added to the club`s website.

Paris Saint Germain`s Kaba Diawara has emerged as another option for The Saints, but Lowe had no comment to make on the forward who had a fine season on loan at Nice.
