Silvestre's Cup warning

MANCHESTER UNITED defender Mikael Silvestre has admitted he will be a reluctant participant at this summer`s Confederations Cup.

The full back has established himself as a regular member of Bleus coach Jacques Santini`s squad, and played in the 6-0 mauling of Malta on Saturday.

In all probability Silvestre will be involved in the controversial tournament, but he is not relishing the prospect of yet another summer without a proper break from football.

"I will go if I am called up," he told L`Equipe. "But I don't think it is a good thing."

Silvestre feels the players should be allowed to rest, with Euro 2004 firmly on his mind.

"We were below our normal level (at the World Cup) because of our exertions the previous year," said Silvestre. "We must learn the lessons."
