LOPO FLATTERED BY UNITED INTEREST

ESPANYOL defender Alberto Lopo is flattered by Manchester United's alleged interest in his services, although he is focusing on playing at Montjuic, at least until the summer.

The highly-rated centre back has attracted attention from Real Madrid and United, but is in no rush to leave the Barcelona-based club.

"I only found out about United's interest in the press," he revealed.

"It is flattering that a great team pays attention to me.

"I am staying here and, if there is something, it will be seen in June. It is necessary to go step-by-step and I am happy here."

The £5.6 million-rated 21-year-old is under contract until 2004, so everything is really in the hands of Espanyol.

"If the club wants to something at the end of the season, I will do it, but I am well here," he added. "On a personal level, I do not have any complaints and, if there are offers or possible interest, I am enchanted."

Espanyol have had financial problems but will want to hang onto Lopo for the time being.
