Former Newcastle and Tottenham striker Les Ferdinand believes Harry Kane is a hybrid of both Alan Shearer and Teddy Sheringham.
Kane took part in his first England training session on Tuesday after earning his first call-up into Roy Hodgson's squad having scored 29 goals for Tottenham this season.
And Ferdinand, who played with Shearer at Newcastle and Sheringham at Spurs, says Kane is a combination of the two players, who scored nearly 700 career goals between them.
"I had the pleasure of playing with both Teddy and Alan and I can see a little bit of both of them in him," Ferdinand told Sky Sports News HQ. "The way Harry strikes the ball is very Alan Shearer-like. His movement and the positions he takes up are very Teddy Sheringham-like.
"The one thing that he has above the two players is he's able to pick the ball up and dribble. I'm really pleased for him and how he's progressing. He's done fantasitcally well and deserves his England call-up.
"I knew he always had the ability to score goals, but he's got 29 goals this season I didn't see that. I thought he would be in and out of the side but he's managed to sustain his performance throughout the whole of the season and that is a surprise."
QPR striker Charlie Austin missed out on Hodgson's latest squad despite trailing only Kane as the second-highest English goalscorer in the Premier League this season and Ferdinand has seen Austin's progress first-hand as Director of Football at Loftus Road.
"Charlie's done all he can do," he said. "He's scored goals. The manager has been several times to watch him. He likes Charlie and I do believe he will get his chance if keeps scoring goals. Sometimes you just have to bide your time."
