Tottenham Hostpur are winning the race to sign MK Dons teenage midfielder Dele Alli, according to Sky sources.

Aston Villa and Newcastle United have also been linked with making a move for the highly-rated youngster on Deadline Day. But Spurs are now favourites to capture him.

Villa boss Paul Lambert expressed a desire to bring in new talent by the end of the transfer window following their 5-0 demolition at Arsenal on Sunday afternoon.

After watching his side fail to score for a sixth successive game, Lambert was bullish about potential transfer activity but told Sky Sports: “We’ve definitely got enough, that’s for sure. If we can do one or two more then it’s something we’ll try.

“It’s not easy to bring people in but if something does come in we’ll look at it.”

The 18-year-old Alli is one player seeming to be high on Lambert's shopping list.

When asked about where his team needed strengthening, Lambert added: “Really everywhere. Anybody who can improve the side as well, but we’ll see what can happen.”

Alli has scored 12 league goals this season, including a hat-trick in September's 6-0 win over Crewe, to help the Dons climb into the second automatic promotion spot in League One.
