Leicester City have held talks with German side Mainz about a possible deal for forward Shinji Okazaki, according to Sky sources.

However, Mainz want a transfer fee of £8m for the 28-year-old Japan international which is putting off the Foxes.

There may also be an issue over Okazaki’s wage demands.

Okazaki has scored 23 goals in 49 Bundesliga appearances for Mainz since joining them from Stuttgart in July 2013.

He has also netted 41 goals in 85 games for Japan and is currently with the national team at the Asian Cup in Australia.

Leicester are moving closer to completing a deal for Croatia striker Andrej Kramaric after the FA endorsed their work permit application for the 23-year-old on Monday and they are reportedly unlikely to sign Okazaki as well.
