Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has called on his side to show its ruthless streak ahead of the weekend’s match against Hull.

Van Gaal, who is managing a squad plagued by injuries, said the team needed to secure wins.

"We have to improve our playing style and beat opponents more easily," said the Dutchman.

We are still fourth so I am happy, but we have to be at least fourth at the end of the season, not now.

"We are still fourth so I am happy, but we have to be at least fourth at the end of the season, not now.”

United’s injury crisis continued with an ankle injury to defender Luke Shaw likely to sideline the 19-year-old for "a few weeks", according to van Gaal.

United are also without Phil Jones, Rafael and Daley Blind, but the manager said Radamel Falcao and Marcos Rojo could return to the squad against Hull City.

Falcao resumed full training on Sunday after missing the last four first-team fixtures with a calf injury, while Rojo has not featured since dislocating his shoulder during United's 1-0 loss to Manchester City.

"Every player has to fight for his position and I shall always pick the best of the players. It has to be a suitable mix," van Gaal said.
