Transfer news: Championship clubs chasing Sunderland's Danny Graham

Sunderland boss Gus Poyet claims several Sky Bet Championship clubs have expressed an interest in taking Danny Graham on loan.

The out-of-favour striker has struggled since completing a £5million move to the Stadium of Light in January 2013.

Having slipped down the pecking order, he spent time on loan at Hull City and Middlesbrough last season.

There are plenty of Championship clubs looking at him. Plenty. But I think everyone needs to be happy.

A similar deal could be sanctioned this term, providing the terms are right, with Brentford among the second tier clubs known to be keen on offering the 29-year-old an opportunity to rediscover his form.

Poyet told the Sunderland Echo of a player he named on the bench for Monday’s 3-1 victory over Crystal Palace: “There are plenty of Championship clubs looking at him. Plenty. But I think everyone needs to be happy.

“Apparently he was going (to Brentford) and then it collapsed.

“The situation with Danny is a little bit unfair because (Steven) Fletcher has been so good in the last few weeks that he deserves to play. The problem has been finding a partner for him.

“It’s definitely not Danny because he’s more of a central striker.

“But, depending on the numbers, he could be on the bench again or depending how we play.

“There are moments when you have so many injuries as well that you can’t let him go.”
