League Two newcomers Newport County concluded their pre-season preparations by punishing a young Aston Villa side 5-2.
The Premier League outfit sent out an Under-21 side at Rodney Parade and they broke the deadlock thanks to a well-worked goal by Jack Grealish.
However, the side from South Wales hit back as Danny Crow's scrambled effort went in off Josh Webb after 33 minutes.
But Villa restored their lead four minutes later through Danny O'Brien.
Substitute Andrew Hughes made it 2-2 just before the hour mark, converting Max Porter's right-wing cutback and Lee Minshull handed the home side the lead.
Christian Jolley bagged a fourth for County before Minshull added his second of the night with a fine volley to wrap up a confidence-boosting win ahead of the new season.
Justin Edinburgh's side play their first game in the Football League for 25 years when they host Accrington Stanley on Saturday.
