Hamburg coach Thorsten Fink admits he would be open to the possibility of Rafael van der Vaart returning to the club.

Holland international still fondly remembered at Hamburg

Hamburg coach Thorsten Fink admits he is open to the possibility of Rafael van der Vaart returning to the club. The 29-year-old played for the Bundesliga side between 2005 and 2008, notching 29 goals in 74 games during his time in Germany. Speculation over his future at Tottenham continues to gather pace and the declaration by Fink will only serve to increase it. However, the Hamburg boss says the financial outlay that would be involved in a deal of this size may be beyond his club's means.

Profile

"We have drawn up a target profile and Rafael van der Vaart would be an ideal fit," said Fink on Sport1.de. "Any coach would be delighted to have him. Rafael is a very good player and he would be very interesting for Hamburg if we had the money to pay for him. "And we are not just lacking a little, we are talking about a great deal of money."
