But Reds stalwart vows to look forward to new era

Veteran defender Jamie Carragher admits seeing Liverpool legend Kenny Dalglish sacked by the club was a 'sad day'. But the 34-year-old accepts the players must look forward to a new era and throw their weight behind the incoming manager - whoever that may be. American owners Fenway Sports Group terminated Dalglish's contract on Wednesday after deciding a disappointing eight-placed Premier League finish was not good enough for the Anfield club. Dalglish led the Reds to Carling Cup success and an FA Cup final appearance but it could not buy him more time to turn around their top-flight fortunes.

Respect

The Scot was summoned for a meeting with owner John W Henry and chairman Tom Werner earlier this week in Boston, where he was told of their decision. "I spoke to him just before he was getting on his flight and asked: 'Is it Kenny now or gaffer?'. He said: 'It's Kenny now'," revealed Carragher. "I am sorry to see him go but that is football. "It is a sad day for him but we respect the owners' decision and we have to look forward now. "I will be fully committed to whoever the manager is."
