United boss confident his young players have the right attitude

Sir Alex Ferguson has revealed his delight at Danny Welbeck's progress and insists there is more to come from the Manchester United starlet. The 21-year-old has emerged as one of the beacons of the campaign so far for United as he has grown into his first-team role. Welbeck picked up an injury early in the season which disrupted his momentum, but he has returned to peak form in recent weeks scoring four times in six games. However, once the player fully grows into his six-foot plus frame, Ferguson is sure his performances will get even better. He said: "We were always aware of Danny Welbeck's ability.

Physique

"The issue with him now is addressing the physical side. "When he was 16 he had problems with his knees because he was growing, then he had some thigh problems. "It was nothing serious, just a matter of waiting for Danny to develop into a man, which we are seeing the signs of now. "He has a great physique but there is still more to come. Our stats show there's still a bit to do before he becomes a complete adult." Welbeck's talent is without doubt, but it is his temperament that has also impressed observers.
Temperament
Yet for Ferguson, this is not an area of his game that has surprised him, as he believes the selection process within the club identifies which academy players have not only the ability, but also the mentality to play for United. "He has a good attitude, although he should have, he's a young player with an opportunity at Manchester United," added Ferguson. "That's one of the reasons you pick these players, because they show their temperament as they come through the youth programmes and the reserves. "I am always confident about their temperament, their attitude to the game and their enthusiasm to play. "In terms of judging young players, I don't think we've ever failed in that respect."
