Potters boss calls for FA action

Stoke manager Tony Pulis has called on the Football Association to clamp down on the 'unacceptable' waving of imaginary cards by managers and players. The issue has been put into sharp focus in recent weeks following Wayne Rooney's reaction to a challenge by Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany in a recent FA Cup clash, a tackle for which the defender was sent off. City boss Roberto Mancini later accused Rooney of trying to influence referee Chris Foy's decision by waving an imaginary card. The Italian then waved an imaginary card himself during City's Premier League game at Wigan on Monday, after Latics defender Maynor Figueroa deliberately handled with Sergio Aguero set to run in on goal, and had also done the same during the recent victory over Liverpool.

Stopped

The City boss said after the Wigan clash that his reaction was 'normal' but Pulis believes the authorities should act in order to erase it from the English game. "It's something that's come into the game that should be stopped, and the sooner the FA do that the better," said the Welshman. "Sadly, it's the way it's gone, and for me it's unacceptable. "Let the referee officiate and decide whether it's a yellow, red card or a fair challenge, and the rest of us get on with it."
