Potters boss hopes to agree new deals with key players

Stoke boss Tony Pulis is hoping to tie down several of his players to new contracts. Since steering the club into the Premier League in 2008/09, Pulis has strengthened his squad year on year and hopes to retain the services of his core players. Rory Delap, Danny Higginbotham, Robert Huth and Glenn Whelan are among those currently in talks as the Potters look to claim their first top-half finish in the Premier League this season. "There are two or three that we're looking to extend contracts with," he told Sky Sports News.

Good base

"We've got a good group of players, we've got a good base, and it's a base that's seen us through for quite a few years. "We've still got the first group - the Delaps, the Higginbothams - and people who are left from that, people who've been fantastic for this club and still are. "Then we brought Robert and Glenn in at almost the same time, and if we can do something with them we'd love to. "But that's up to them and the club to find an agreement. Thank goodness I'm not involved in that!"
