Potters awarded six-figure sum for training midfield

Stoke City are celebrating being awarded a six-figure sum by the Court of Arbitration for Sport as training compensation for Adam Vass. The Hungary international left for Italian side Brescia four years ago, although the clubs were unable to agree a suitable monetary package. The midfielder spent two-and-a-half years at the Britannia Stadium, but turned down the offer of a new contract in favour of a move in 2007. FIFA's disputes resolution process failed to settle the matter leaving Stoke to appeal the ruling in the Court of Sports Arbitration in Lausanne. Stoke chief executive Tony Scholes has expressed his delight at the outcome, stating their battle for compensation was 'vindicated'.

Delighted

"We are delighted with the outcome," Scholes told the club's official website. "This vindicates our persistence in pursuing Brescia for the compensation which we were clearly entitled to according to the rules set down by FIFA. "We always considered that we had a very strong case and it was disappointing in many respects this matter could not have been resolved earlier. "Thankfully though, the highest decision-making body in this instance, the Court of Arbitration for Sport, have ruled in our favour by awarding us full compensation, costs and interest for the last four-and-a-half years which is very satisfying."
