Spanish starlet catches Kean's eye, as Emerton edges towards exit

Steve Kean hailed Ruben Rochina after watching him slay Sheffield Wednesday, while he has also admitted that Brett Emerton could leave Blackburn. Promising Spanish midfielder Rochina stole the show at Ewood Park on Wednesday as Rovers booked their place in the third round of the Carling Cup. His brace helped Kean's men to a 3-1 victory over the Owls, with summer recruit David Goodwillie also on target. Rochina is being tipped to have a bright future in English football, with his boss pleased to see the 20-year-old developing at such pace. He said: "I see Ruben every day and I know the quality he's got. Tonight we had a glimpse of what we've got for the future. His play tonight was exceptional."

Dialogue

Kean also confirmed there have been plenty of developments in the transfer market of late, with Brett Emerton in talks to go back to Australia and Simon Vukcevic and George John both arriving. Kean said: "With Brett there has been interest from his hometown club and we have had a bit of dialogue. If Brett does move it will be a family decision, not a football decision. "If Brett decides it's something he'd like to explore you've got to give respect for the service he's given the club. If we do lose him it will be very, very sad." Kean confirmed Vukcevic had picked up his work visa and would now join the squad, while John had his Greek passport and was due to have his medical on Thursday. Kean said he was also due to continue talks over a third player. He added: "I met a player last night with permission from his club. But there is some medical and contractual stuff to do."
