Vela and Botelho to spend the season with Spanish sides

Arsenal have announced that Carlos Vela and Pedro Botelho are to spend the 2011/12 campaign on loan at Spanish sides. Both men are set to link up with Primera Liga outfits on season-long deals. Mexican striker Vela spent last season with West Brom, but struggled to hold down a regular role. He is still considered to be some way down the pecking order at the Emirates and will once again be allowed to go in search of games elsewhere. The 22-year-old will join Real Sociedad subject to a medical being passed.

Breakthrough

Meanwhile, Botelho is on his way to newly-promoted Rayo Vallecano. The Brazilian defender is yet to make the breakthrough with the Gunners and will travel to Spain in an effort to prove his worth to Arsene Wenger. Both men have previous experience of Spanish football, with Vela having spent time with Salamanca and Osasuna and Botelho having taken in spells with Cartagena, Salamanca and Celta Vigo. "Everyone at Arsenal Football Club wish Carlos and Pedro the best of luck with their respective clubs for the season ahead," read a statement on the Gunners' official website.
