West Brom manager Roy Hodgson has admitted the club were keen on David Vaughan and hopes they do not regret missing out.
Vaughan was one of Blackpool's stars of last season despite the fact that Ian Holloway's troops were relegated on Survival Sunday.
The 28-year-old was available on a free transfer, however, it was Sunderland who snared his coveted signature on a three-year deal.
Hodgson was a fan of Vaughan and hopes he does not come to regret not pressing ahead with securing his services.

"David was a player we liked," he told the
Birmingham Mail. "When players of his quality come along you have to take an interest.
"He is a very good player but it was difficult for us, given the squad we have at the moment, with the numbers we have, to give him the guarantees he deserves.
"He wants to leave Blackpool, stay in the Premier League and be one of the first names in the team sheet and that would have been difficult for us but I think Sunderland have signed an excellent player.
"I just hope we don't come to regret it."
