West Brom full-back Marek Cech admits he may have to leave if he cannot secure first-team football at the club, but insists he will fight to get into the starting XI.
The 28-year-old left-sided Slovakia international lost his place in the Baggies team to Nicky Shorey following the arrival of Roy Hodgson at The Hawthorns.
Albion took up a one-year option on Cech at the end of the season but his future in the Black Country remains in doubt.
"I will have to fight for a place in the starting line-up," he told the
Birmingham Mail. "We'll see how it all ends, whether I stay or go.
"I would like to stay but everything depends on whether it will be playing regularly. That is important.
"I spoke with the manager after his arrival and he told me he wanted the team to stay up and therefore did not want to interfere too much with the basic set-up or players.
"He chose players who he felt were right and we prospered. That's one of the reasons I wasn't getting chances.
''He had a very short time to save us and yet we kept in the league. Hopefully that will change now and I'll get a chance next season."
Fight
The former Porto man added: "The coaches and club were satisfied with the job I did. I talked about it with the manager and coaches. They want me to stay for at least one year and show a willingness to fight for my place.
"It is difficult to say what changes will be made to the squad. Everything depends on the club owner and coach.
"I think the manager will make reinforcements where necessary and obviously I will see how that affects me.
"Of course, if an offer comes in then I will consider it even if it comes from outside of the Premier League.
"But the English league is the best in the world in terms of quality football. I'm happy at the moment but we will see what happens."
With Slovakia top of their Euro 2012 qualifying group, Cech knows first-team appearances will be imperative should they qualify for Poland/Ukraine next summer.
