Steve Bruce has confirmed he would like Bolo Zenden to remain with Sunderland when his present deal expires.
The 34-year-old has made 26 appearances for the Black Cats this term and was made club captain at the beginning of the season.
Zenden is vastly experienced having played for some of Europe's biggest teams including Barcelona, Chelsea and Liverpool.
Bruce has assembled a team with a firm accent on youth and would like to retain the services of the former Holland international to help his youngsters progress.
The Black Cats boss confirmed that he has held initial talks with Zenden and made it clear he still sees him as part of his plans.
Bruce told the club's official website: "Bolo is a fantastic example to the younger players and I would love him to stay."
