Fit-again Ljungberg ready to play his part

Freddie Ljungberg has expressed his delight at returning to action in Celtic's friendly with Athletic Bilbao last weekend. The veteran Swede joined the Bhoys i January, but fitness and injury problems have hindered his chances of making an immediate impact. Ljungberg has made just four substitute appearances in the SPL so far for Neil Lennon's side and is now looking to kick on. The former West Ham and Arsenal man felt sharp in the San Mames contest and is now relishing the club's end-of-season run-in.

Kick on

"It was great," he told the club's official website on his return to the playing field. "I've been building up my fitness levels and was almost ready, but then got a bit of an overload in my calf after running a bit too much. But it was okay after a couple of days and then I played 90 minutes and there was no pain, so happy days. "It can be frustrating but I have had a very open dialogue with Neil and he said he wanted me to train hard and get really fit. That's just how it is and I will work hard. I am no different to anyone else. It's not a problem. I hope now I can kick on from this and I can get on and play. "That's what Neil said he wanted me to work on, get fit and then I will play. He has been very honest with me. So that's what I have been doing. I just want to play games and that's what I want to keep on doing now. "The end of the season is always the most important part. That's when you win things and when the pressure comes in and of course, I am looking forward to it."
