Ewerthon primed for Premier switch

West Bromwich Albion are leading the chase for Brazil international forward Ewerthon, skysports.com understands. The 29-year-old is a free agent after he negotiated his release from Palmeiras earlier this month. Ewerthon is no stranger to European football after spending much of his career plying his trade in Germany, Norway and Spain. He is best known from his spells with Borussia Dortmund and Real Zaragoza, where he played more than 100 games for each club. He returned to his homeland last year to spend a season with Palmeiras and he scored seven goals in 21 games but now he is ready to return back across the Atlantic. And England looks likely to be his next destination, with a host of Premier League clubs chasing Ewerthon. West Brom are believed to be leading the chase and are looking to tie up a deal for the player who has a Spanish passport and will not require a work permit.

Interest

However, Birmingham, Blackburn, Sunderland and West Ham are very much on the player's trail as well. "A number of Premier League clubs are looking at him, and we are very hopeful a deal will be done soon," his British representative Barry McIntosh told skysports.com. "During his time with Dortmund and Zaragoza, a host of Premier League clubs were very keen to get him, but at that time he could not get a work permit and he did not have European citizenship. "Now that has changed and he is available on free transfer. He has many good options in England. "The player also has offers to return to Germany and Spain, but he didn't want to finish his career having not played in England and sees now as the ideal time to fulfil that. "He is keen to get the deal done, but there is not the urgency like some deals as he can sign outside the window."
