Striker set to finalise deal

Aston Villa are close to finalising the club record capture of Sunderland's Darren Bent. The England striker asked for a transfer earlier this week as news of Villa's move for him emerged. Sunderland are now locked in talks with Villa over a deal which could be worth up to £25million. Villa are now working closely on the deal and could very well announce his capture on Tuesday. Bent is already in Birmingham ahead of being given the green light to finalise the deal. Bent is set to become Gerard Houllier's third signing of the window following on from the capture of Lyon midfielder Jean Makoun and Kyle Walker on loan from Tottenham. Despite the near £30million outlay on Makoun and Bent, it is understood Houllier still has a number of other targets he would like to bring in before the deadline closes.
