Brazilian defender wants end to Hamburg nightmare

Hamburg defender Alex Silva hopes to make his Sao Paulo loan move permanent next summer. The 25-year-old, brother of Benfica and Brazil defender Luisao, agreed an 18-month loan switch back to his former club in January 2010 after failing to settle in Germany. Silva, who has two caps for Brazil, claims to have been played out of position at Bundesliga giants Hamburg and he has reservations about returning to Europe. "I would only be willing to return to Hamburg if I am played in my preferred position in the centre of defence," Silva told German newspaper Rheinische. He added: "Still, I am hoping Hamburg have the understanding to allow me to remain with Sao Paulo FC. I really want to stay." Silva moved to the Imtech Arena for an undisclosed fee in 2008, but was being deployed as a makeshift midfielder. He has also had his Hamburg career disrupted by a serious knee injury.
