PSV remain unbeaten, 10-man Metalist also come from behind

PSV Eindhoven stayed top of Group I on Thursday night while 10-man Metalist Kharkiv also came from behind to win 2-1. PSV travelled to Hungary to face Debrecen on matchday three and the home side went in front in the 35th minute when Swiss defender Mirsad Mijadinoski fired home from a Peter Czvitkovics free-kick. But the Dutch visitors levelled just five minutes later as Holland midfielder Orlando Engelaar found the bottom corner with a left-footed strike. Brazilian striker Jonathan Reis then twice went close before converting a 12-yard strike in the 66th minute to clinch PSV's fourth straight win and stretch their unbeaten run to 12 games. Fred Rutten's men are now a point clear at the top of the group having taken seven points from nine.

Fightback

Metalist Kharkiv leapfrogged Sampdoria into second place after overcoming the second-half dismissal of Taison to claim a 2-1 home win. The Ukrainian hosts had dumped Samp out to reach the last 16 of the 2008/09 Uefa Cup, where they were knocked out by their more illustrious compatriots Dynamo Kiev. But the Italians looked set to avenge that when they took the lead against the run of play in the 32nd minute as 21-year-old Hungary international Vladimir Koman, who was born in the Ukraine, fired home his first goal for the club from Nicola Pozzi's pass. Taison equalised for the hosts just six minutes later but the Brazilian forward went from hero to villain in the 56th minute as he was shown a straight red card for violent conduct following a tangle with Samp defender Massimo Volta. Yet the visitors failed to make their numerical advantage count and Brazilian midfielder Cleiton Xavier struck a 73rd-minute winner from Edmar's corner.
