Experienced centre-half keen on Potters stay

Abdoulaye Faye is hoping to earn a new deal at Stoke, while helping the club to preserve their top flight status. The 32-year-old centre half is in the final year of his current contract with the Potters and would become a free agent next summer if fresh terms are not agreed. Having been at the Britannia Stadium since 2008, and having become a firm fans' favourite during that time, the Senegal international is determined to ensure that an extension is put to him. He has no desire to try his luck elsewhere and has hinted that he would welcome the opportunity to see out his playing days with Stoke. "This is the last season of my contract, but I would prefer to stay here," Faye told The Sentinel. "I am happy here, the fans like me and I have everything here. "Maybe I have three years left before I finish football, but I am happy here, so why go somewhere else?"

Pride

Faye's sense of satisfaction at Stoke is borne out of the fact that he has helped the club to become an established Premier League outfit. He is delighted to have played a part in turning the Potters into a top flight force and is determined to ensure that they remain among England's elite for the foreseeable future. Faye added: "I am proud. When I first came to Stoke some people said the club was going straight back down, but I said I wanted to come here and I wanted the challenge. "But we stayed up then and in the second season as well. Now this year we have a strong team and more good players. "Everyone works hard together and enjoys the game. The team spirit is as good as it was."
