Blackburn manager hails striker's form

Blackburn manager Sam Allardyce has praised Nikola Kalinic for again showing good composure following his goal against Manchester City. The Croatian striker slotted the ball home from outside the area following a defensive mix-up between Joe Hart and Kolo Toure to help Rovers claim a 1-1 draw. It was Kalinic's second goal of the season, having also seized on a goalkeeping mistake from Everton's Tim Howard on the opening day of the campaign. He may not have had to work too hard for his goals but Allardyce has still been impressed and has now challenged the 22-year-old to build on his early success.

Cool and calm

"You've got to be there to finish them off, haven't you?" Allardyce told the club's official website. "Put him in front of goal and he is cool and calm. It was a little more difficult, this one, than the one he scored against Everton. "That was a well-taken goal but this one was a lot further out, he had to make sure he got it past the last defender and just stroked it in. "Under that pressure when everybody expects you to score, you've got to hold your nerve and make sure you do, and Niko did. That will boost his confidence very well."
