McLeish still on lookout

Birmingham manager Alex McLeish hopes to add one more signing to his squad.

Blues boss keen to sign another player

Alex McLeish is confident of adding one more name to the Birmingham City's ranks before the transfer window shuts. The Blues manager has so far seen his recent recruitment plans scuppered after deals to bring Moussa Dembele and Charles N'Zogbia to St Andrews proved fruitless. Fulham was striker Dembele's preferred choice ahead of the Midlands outfit while Wigan winger N'Zogbia priced himself out of a potential £9million transfer after the Frenchman's reportedly excessive wage demands. But McLeish is still hopeful of bringing another player to the club before Tuesday's deadline. "We are trying our best to bring people in to improve the quality of the squad," McLeish, who has been linked with Spartak Moscow captain Martin Jiranek, told the club's website. "The near misses I've had with Dembele, N'Zogbia and others, that's unfortunate when you see how good these players are but there are other ones out there and we'll try and add somebody before 6 o'clock on Tuesday." Ben Foster, Nikola Zigic and Matt Derbyshire have been the most notable arrivals at Birmingham this summer, who remain unbeaten after three Premier League games after Sunday's 2-2 at Bolton.
