Former Wigan defender Mario Melchiot will be playing football in Qatar next season.
The 33-year-old has signed for Umm Salal having fallen out of contract with the Latics.
Coach Henk ten Cate, who brought Spanish midfielder Gabri to the club, was reportedly on the lookout for an experienced defender.
Melchiot certainly fits that bill having made 33 appearances last season and featured predominantly at the back since his arrival from French side Rennes in 2007.
The Dutchman, who boasts an impressive playing career at Chelsea, Birmingham and Ajax, has agreed a two year deal with the Arabic club.
