Defender reveals cup run is all that is keeping club going

Steve Finnan admits that an FA Cup semi-final against Tottenham at Wembley is the only factor that has maintained Portsmouth's morale. A nine-point penalty for going into administration means that relegation from the Premier League is almost certain and has left Pompey's thin squad in disarray. Finnan confesses that the meeting with Tottenham in the FA Cup on 11th April, a repeat of this weekend's league defeat to Spurs, is what is keeping the players going. The defender told Portsmouth's official website: "Getting to the semi-final has kept the season going. It's a bright point and without it everyone would probably just want the season to be finished. "It's a one-off game and everyone's going to be up for it, so who knows what can happen? I can't imagine any players in the side have ever had a situation like this with the financial problems and such a depleted squad. "David James is still cracking the jokes and keeping everyone going - you need characters like that. At the moment you're not sure what's going to happen from one game to the next."
