New Villarreal striker sets sights on South Africa

Striker Nilmar is hoping his switch to Villarreal will aid his bid to represent Brazil at the 2010 World Cup finals in South Africa. The 25-year-old has completed his move to El Madrigal from Internacional in his homeland for a fee reported to be in the region of 11million euros. Nilmar has previous experience of European football from a stint with Lyon and is eager for his switch to La Liga to lift his international ambitions. The forward was part of the Brazil squad that won this summer's Confederations Cup in South Africa, but made just one substitute appearance in one of the group games.

Dream

"I'm very anxious to start and I'm eager to please the directors and the fans," he said. "I know that Villarreal is an important shop window for the Brazil national team, so I hope I can be successful here and also be able to play in the next World Cup in South Africa. "Spanish football has always attracted me, it's very similar to Brazilian football, it's very technical and is played with a lot of speed. "Now I'm going to fulfil my dream of playing in Spain."
