Birmingham have 'eight balls in the air' in transfer market

Birmingham are optimistic they will soon end their search for a new midfielder after revealing they have a number of options. The Blues have already strengthened in defence with the arrivals of Scott Dann, Giovanny Espinoza and Roger Johnson ahead of starting their season at Manchester United on 16th August, which can be seen live on Sky Sports 1 & HD1. But boss Alex McLeish has made it clear that, despite also capturing Lee Bowyer on a permanent deal and spending a record amount on forward Christian Benitez, he is still eager for further activity in the transfer market. The Scot has turned his attention to midfield and has made it clear he wants to increase options amidst links with Joey Barton, Barry Ferguson and Patrick Vieira. St Andrews co-owner David Sullivan has revealed there are a host of potential arrivals and is positive there will soon be more new faces, telling the Birmingham Mail: "We are looking to strengthen the team further and, for a midfielder.

Working hard

"We've got eight balls in the air at the moment. We are working hard and hopefully one or two things will be resolved in the coming days." McLeish, who soon takes his side to Austria on a pre-season training tour, is also interested to see how midfielder Keith Fahey adapts to the Premier League after earning promotion from the Championship last term. "Lee Carsley and Damien Johnson have got their own fantastic qualities, Keith Fahey is different from them even," said the Blues manager. "Keith came in and was a revelation playing on the left side when we narrowed the midfield. "I'm hoping for big things from Keith as well. He's now got to prove himself as a Premier League player."
