Rennes midfielder linked with English move

Stephane Mbia has admitted he is likely to leave Rennes this summer after being linked with a number of English clubs. The Cameroonian midfielder was heavily connected with a move to Everton before the start of the season but Rennes managed to keep hold of him. He agreed a new deal with the French club on the condition that he would be allowed to embark on a fresh challenge at the end of the campaign. Newcastle, Blackburn and newly promoted Birmingham are now all interested in securing his services, according to reports in the French press. Arsenal are also understood to be monitoring his situation as Arsene Wenger looks to add more steel to his midfield. Mbia told skysports.com: "I had an agreement to leave at the end of the season if all parties are happy, so I can't say yet what will happen. "There are many good clubs linked according to the press so let's wait and see. The season is almost finished." Reports suggest Mbia's preference would be to stay in France with Marseille, while he would not want to join a big club such as Arsenal or Bayern Munich at this stage of his career.
