Hammers midfielder loaned to Birmingham

Birmingham have signed West Ham midfielder Lee Bowyer on loan until the end of the season. The 32-year-old becomes Alex McLeish's fifth new recruit during the January transfer window, following Keith Fahey, Robin Shroot, Scott Sinclair and Hameur Bouazza to St Andrews. Bowyer has featured just seven times for the Hammers this season, failing to force his way into Gianfranco Zola's plans. It has therefore been agreed that it is in his best interests to go in search of regular first-team action away from Upton Park. A one-cap England international with plenty of top-flight experience, Birmingham will be hoping Bowyer can play a pivotal role in their efforts to bounce back into the Premier League at the first time of asking. "Lee's a dynamic player and I want to bring a dynamic look back to the team," McLeish told the club's official website. "Roy Aitken, one of my assistants, has worked with him (at Leeds) and knows him as an attacking midfielder but he also knows that Lee can give a lot to the team as well."
