Real Madrid could scupper the hopes of clubs looking to bring Mauro Zarate back to England.

Spanish giants ready to bid

A number of Premier League clubs are looking to bring Mauro Zarate back to England, but interest from Real Madrid could scupper their hopes. The Argentine international spent the latter part of last season on loan at Birmingham and he impressed with four goals. Lazio then secured him on loan from Qatari side Al-Sadd and he has shone in Serie A with seven goals to his name. The Roman club are desperate to tie him down and seal a permanent deal, but it appears they have a battle on their hands to land him. Skysports.com understands a handful of Premier League sides have already made contact with Zarate's representatives about the prospect of him moving back to England - something which does appeal to the player. However, a stumbling block has emerged in the shape of Real Madrid - who are looking for striking cover in January. Real are ready to seal a deal for the 21-year-old, who would help cover for the absent Ruud van Nistelrooy - sidelined until the end of the season. Real are now set to talk terms with Al-Sadd about a permanent deal in January.
