Sven Goran Eriksson wants to reduce his squad before bringing in new players - and says he has no interest in signing Adriano.
With the end of the transfer window approaching, Middlesbrough are apparently ready to make a bid for City striker Georgios Samaras, while Charlton could be set to sign defender Danny Mills.
And, speaking after his side's 2-1 Carling Cup victory at Bristol City on Wednesday night, Eriksson admitted that he is still looking to make changes to his squad.
"In a way, it is true to say that I have to sell players before others come in," he said.
"When you have 25 or 26 players, it is just not practical. Training is difficult for a start, so we shall see."
The Brazil star is currently surplus to requirements at Giuseppe Meazza, and Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger recently claimed his club had been in touch to discuss a possible move to Emirates Stadium.
But, while Eriksson hinted that he may have held discussions with Adriano, he insists he has no intention of bringing him to the club.
"Even if I had made contact with him, I would say no. Take that how you want."
