Merse and Thommo predict 1-1 draw at KC Stadium

Soccer Saturday pundits Phil Thompson and Paul Merson think Hull City could halt Southampton's Premier League charge on Saturday.

Southampton have been a surprise package under new boss Ronald Koeman, winning six of their nine matches to sit in second place in the Premier League.

But Thommo and Merse feel Steve Bruce's charges could deny the Saints at the KC Stadium in one of Saturday's six selected Soccer Saturday Super 6 matches.

Merse, who has gone for a 1-1 draw, said: "Graziano Pelle is on fire, as we saw with that outstanding goal in the Capital One Cup, but I can see Southampton only getting a draw. That’s because I think Hull are a real threat again after going back to playing three at the back.

"Believe it or not, I don’t think there’s a lot of difference between these two teams. If you take Pelle’s goals and give them to Hull then it might be a bit different."

Thommo agreed: "Hull gained a great point at Anfield last week and are proving hard to beat under Steve Bruce. Southampton have surprised everyone and are flying but I can see Hull getting something out of this game."

All the pundits expect leaders Chelsea and Arsenal to ease to victory over QPR and Burnley respectively, while only Thommo thinks the Everton will be denied maximum points when Swansea visit Goodison Park.

He said: "I saw Swansea in midweek and they were very unlucky not to get something from the game at Anfield despite having half a team. They can get a draw at Goodison."

Despite three victories on the bounce, including a 2-1 win over defending champions Manchester City last week, the pundits are split on the outcome of West Ham's trip to the Britannia, although Soccer Saturday presenter Jeff Stelling expects the visitors to inflict a third straight defeat on struggling Stoke.

"It's not been much of a week for Stoke following those back-to-back defeats by Southampton, out of the cup as well and Peter Crouch sent off - that's a blow," said Jeff.

"Sam Allardyce must be absolutely ecstatic with the way the season has gone so far. Only one away loss and that came at the hands of Manchester United, they've got Diafra Sakho scoring goals for fun and Alex Song could yet prove to be the signing of the season."
