New Real Madrid coach Rafael Benitez has admitted he is a big admirer of unsettled Liverpool forward Raheem Sterling but was unwilling to say whether or not the club would move for the England winger in the summer.

The Madrid-born coach was unveiled at the Santiago Bernabeu on Wednesday after signing a three-year contract.

When asked about Sterling, 20, the former Anfield boss said: "We admire Raheem, that's no secret - but he is not one of our players so I can't really comment on him."

He also refused to confirm or deny reported Real interest in Spain goalkeeper David De Gea, who could leave Manchester United this summer after refusing a new contract at Old Trafford.

"I like the way you have tried to sneak that question under the radar but we will evaluate everything in time," said Benitez. "We will not name names today."

The Spaniard was relieved to finally return to his home country after previously leading Valencia to two league titles in 2001/2002 and 2003/2004 before leaving for Liverpool.

He added: "It is an emotional day because I've returned home. I hope things go well, that we are able to win titles and also that the team play well.

"I would like to thank the club for the faith they have shown in my work."
