Bristol City are closing in on a first league title for 60 years after stretching their lead at the top of the table with victory against Leyton Orient.

The Robins remain the team to catch and are now 10 points clear at the summit after a 3-1 success at Brisbane Road, with results involving the chasing pack also going in their favour.

An early Chris Dagnall goal saw the leaders fall behind at Orient but Luke Freeman and Aden Flint scored before half-time to turn the game on its head. Aaron Wilbraham netted on the hour mark to give City victory.

Preston needed an injury-time equaliser from Jermaine Beckford to rescue a 2-2 home draw against Doncaster.

Daniel Johnson's fourth goal in as many games gave North End the lead but goals inside the final 10 minutes from Harry Forrester and Curtis Main looked like inflicting a rare Deepdale defeat on Simon Grayson's side, until Beckford struck in the fourth minute of added time.

MK Dons lost 2-1 at home to Chesterfield, who came from behind to win with a last-minute goal from on-loan Sheffield Wednesday forward Caolan Lavery.

On-loan Chelsea midfielder Lewis Baker marked his full Dons debut with a superb goal but Gary Roberts equalised for the Spireites, who are now just a point outside the play-off places.

Swindon surrendered ground in the race for automatic promotion as Gillingham continued their improvement under Justin Edinburgh with a 3-0 victory at the County Ground.

Two goals from Cody McDonald and another from Jake Hessenthaler gave the Gills a third victory in five matches since Edinburgh was appointed manager last month.

Sheffield United's 2-1 home defeat to Peterborough meant Bristol City were the only team in the top six to win on Tuesday night.

The Blades looked like cementing their place in fifth spot when Matt Done's second-half header gave them the lead but goals in the 88th and 90th minutes from Jack Payne and Conor Washington gave Dave Robertson two wins from two games as Posh caretaker manager.

Behind the Blades, the scramble for what looks like the only remaining play-off place remains as tight as ever with nine clubs separated by just four points.

Bradford beat Crawley as Francois Zoko's header saw the FA Cup quarter-finalists win 1-0 at Valley Parade.

Another headed goal, this time from Barnsley's George Waring, gave the Tykes a 1-0 home win against Coventry and lifted Lee Johnson's new side up to 10th in the table.

It was also 1-0 at Vale Park where Mike Jones' free-kick shortly before half-time was enough to see Oldham end Port Vale's three-match winning run.

At the bottom end of the table, Yeovil remain rooted to the foot of the standings after losing 1-0 at home to Walsall. Jordy Hiwula scored the Saddlers' goal while Adam Morgan saw a second-half penalty saved by visiting goalkeeper Richard O'Donnell.

Paddy McCourt scored the only goal of the game as Notts County won 1-0 at Colchester.

Ian Henderson and Joe Bunney scored two goals each in Rochdale's 4-0 home victory against Crewe while there were also four goals at Highbury as Fleetwood and Scunthorpe shared a 2-2 draw.

The hosts twice led through Jamie Proctor and Josh Morris but Gary McSheffrey and George Evans scored Scunthorpe's equalisers.
