Ivory Coast are on course to win their first Africa Cup of Nations in 23 years after beating DR Congo 3-1 in Bata thanks to goals from Yaya Toure, Gervinho and Wilfried Kanon.

Ivory Coast skipper and Manchester City midifleder Toure gave his side the lead with a fine finish on 20 minutes, but DR Congo equalised two minutes later through Dieumerci Mbokani's penalty.

Former Arsenal striker Gervinho made it 2-1 in the second half, before Kanon added a third.

Ghana and hosts Equatorial Guinea meet on Thursday to decide who will play Ivory Coast in the final on Sunday.

The first chance fell to DR Congo, but Jeremy Bokila's drive at goal from 10 yards was parried by Ivory Coast stopper Sylvain Gbohouo, before the rebound from Mbokani was put over.

Toure gave Ivory Coast the lead on 20 minutes, smashing home from the edge of the area high into the net after the ball fell nicely.

But two minutes later DR Congo were handed a penalty after Eric Bailly handled in the area, and Mbokani slid home the spot kick low into the corner for 1-1.

Mbokani had a fine oppourtunity to score a second on 37 mintues, but scuffed his effort from 16 yards.

But minutes after he had hit the crossbar with a header, Gervinho gave Ivory Coast the lead again, running onto a perfectly weighted ball from Wilfried Bony to curl home from 16 yards.

The two teams traded chances early in the second half with Crystal Palace's Yannick Bolasie firing just wide for DR Congo with a superb low effort after dancing past four players, before Toure wasted a great chance to extend Ivory Coast's lead after good work from Serge Aurier.

But they did not have to wait much longer as Kanon reacted quickest to sweep home from close range after Aurier's header from Toure's corner was saved.

Gervinho should have had a second late on, but he failed to lift the ball over Robert Kidiaba after the goalkeeper put pressure on the Roma man.
