Everton striker Around Kone will start his first competitive match in over a year against Krasnodar on Thursday.

Goodison boss Roberto Martinez announced the decision as he named seven of the 11 who will start in the Europa League tie.

The other six named are Joel Robles, Christian Atsu, Steven Pienaar, Bryan Oviedo, Luke Garbutt and Tyias Browning.

Everton have already qualified for the next round of the competition as group winners and Martinez is looking to rotate his squad ahead of the busy Christmas schedule.

“It's a game that should be a celebration because with a game to go, we are top of the group and winners,” the Spaniard said. “We can experiment with players.

“Tomorrow is a great chance to also see a little bit into the future with some of the youngsters that I am excited to see play.

“I want to thank all the fans for the support they have given to Bryan Oviedo and Arouna Kone. Tomorrow is a celebration for them

"Arouna is quite unique in what he brings so as a manager you welcome him back. He has plenty of experience and will make a difference."

Kone, who cost £6m from Wigan when Martinez made him his first signing at Goodison Park, injured his knee during a 2-1 win over Hull in October 2013 but is ecstatic to be back playing.

"It's going to be fantastic to start. It'll be like making my debut again. It has been a long time coming,” the Ivorian said.

"I've never been out as long as I have with this injury. I have had to be patient. In training I feel great. The support from the manager and the fans has been very important. Last season was so frustrating. It was made easier with that support."
