St Johnstone defender Callum Davidson says teammate Alan Mannus reminds him of ex-England and Arsenal keeper David Seaman.

Mannus does not possess either a pony-tail or moustache but, according to the 38-year-old Davidson, the Canadian-born keeper has many similar attributes as the 75-capped Seaman.

Davidson told the Dundee Courier: “Alan reminds me of a keeper like David Seaman. He always does his job.

“Seaman wasn’t one for the spectacular saves but he was a top goalie. I wouldn’t directly compare them but Alan is in that mould.

“He’s reliable, not flash or one for being eccentric. He does his job and defenders know what he is all about.

“Alan can be vocal as well. I would certainly hear him when I played with him.”

Davidson, who is assistant manager at McDiarmid Park, also heaped praise on left wing-back Simon Lappin.

Lappin joined Saints on a two-year deal in the summer after being released from his contract with Cardiff City.

“Simon is unbelievable at training," said Davidsoin. "You would take 12 guys like him any day in terms of attitude and technical ability.

"He will want to do better but he always wants to be on the ball and he links really well with Brian Easton and Michael O’Halloran."
