Newcastle have sent defender Ryan Taylor for an MRI scan on his knee after limping off during his Premier League return.

The 30-year-old, who only just made his comeback from 32 months on the sidelines with an anterior cruciate ligament problem, was withdrawn 33 minutes into the first half after a knock to the same knee.

Sky Sports reporter Chris Kamara said: “Taylor has gone for an MRI scan and they’re hopeful it’s not his anterior cruciate again.

“The club doctor doesn’t think it is but they’re going to get the proper evidence first before they make a decision on him.”

The defender, who signed from Wigan in 2009, returned in the 2-0 Carling Cup victory at Manchester City on October 29.
