Former England manager Sven-Goran Eriksson has been unveiled as the new coach of Shanghai East Asia, and will be on a contract expected to make him one of the top earning football managers in the world.

Eriksson's salary with the Chinese club is expected to be in the range of $6million (£3.8million), which would rank him among the top 20 best paid managers in the world, according to the latest study by France Football magazine.

He would be ahead of Laurent Blanc, coach of French champions Paris Saint-Germain, who earned $5.2million (£3.3million) in the 2013-14 season.

Eriksson left fellow Chinese Super League club Guangzhou R&F last week, and Chinese media said his new bosses were willing to double the coaching team's salaries.

"I am very happy and very proud that it is finally official that we are here and I am going to be the head coach of this club," Eriksson said.

Shanghai East Asia will spend 500 million yuan (£52million) on developing their side next season, reports in China said. It is unclear whether Eriksson will have full control over the funds.

Eriksson will have former Tottenham Hotspur and Leicester City goalkeeper Ian Walker on his staff, after Walker joined the club in January following a spell at Shenhua.

Shanghai East Asia finished fifth in last season's CSL, the top-flight Chinese league which is currently the highest attended football league in Asia.
