Cristiano Ronaldo said his Real Madrid side are looking to become the first team to retain the Champions League after he netted a goal in their 3 nil again

Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo was proud to net his first goal at Anfield and help his side beat Liverpool 3-0 in the Champions League on Wednesday.

Ronaldo notched with a great strike in the 23rd minute before a double by Karim Benezema sealed the three points for Carlo Ancelotti’s side.

It was special, it was my first goal here at Anfield so I feel very proud for that.

Holders Real now top Group B with a perfect nine points from their opening three games and ex-Manchester United ace Ronaldo was delighted to help his side win.

He told Sky Sports: “It was special, it was my first goal here at Anfield so I feel very proud for that.

“I feel happy – we win and three points so amazing.

“We knew before the game that Anfield is a difficult place but I think that we played fantastic, especially in the first 45 minutes and we deserved to win.

“The best thing it’s a team win, we have nine points so 75 per cent of the qualification is done.”

He hopes Real can be the first team to retain the Champions League.

“Why not? We are thinking step by step, we know qualification is the priority of the team but we are going to try like last year.

“We know it’s going to be very tough but we are positive and I think it will be possible if we play like that.”
