Newcastle are poised to sign Nottingham Forest duo Karl Darlow and Jamaal Lascelles within the next 24 hours, Sky sources understand.

The Magpies have already made seven signings this summer and are expected to finalise a deal worth in excess of £5million for 23-year-old goalkeeper Darlow and England Under-21 defender Lascelles.

Both players are thought to be heading to Tyneside for medicals, but will then be loaned back to Forest for the whole of the 2014/15 season.

Darlow was released by Aston Villa as a youngster, but has made his name at Forest with some impressive displays for the Championship club.

Centre-back Lascelles had been linked with a number of Premier League clubs, including Arsenal, Everton and Tottenham, but Newcastle appear to have won the race for the 20-year-old's signature.

Manager Alan Pardew has revamped his squad in recent weeks, with latest arrival Facundo Ferreyra joining new team-mates Siem de Jong, Daryl Janmaat, Emmanual Riviere, Jack Colback, Ayoze Perez and Remy Cabella.

Speaking after his side's 3-1 win over Schalke on Sunday, Pardew hinted at more new faces before the transfer window closes.

More from Summer Transfer Window 2014

"I think we have done some terrific business this summer. It must please the Newcastle fans that we have signed some exciting, offensive players,” he said.

"And, for me, I feel far more comfortable with the team and that we can play a brand of football that is expected of us.

"It is very difficult for the likes of the teams outside of the Champions League money to compete. But we are trying to do it in an educated manner.

"We've been accused of not spending the money we bring in, but now we have spent it and we can hope to get as close as we can. Certainly, offensively we are definitely stronger. There is no doubt about that.

"We have always maintained that we will watch the window right up until the last hours."
