Barnsley defender Tom Kennedy has left the club by mutual consent, but young midfielder Brad Abbott has signed a new contract at Oakwell.
Kennedy, 29, had been a key member of the Tykes squad since arriving at Oakwell back in 2012 and leaves having made 75 appearances for the club. Abbott, meanwhile, who has yet to feature for the Reds' first team, has penned a two-year extension to keep him at Oakwell until the end of 2016. The 19-year-old midfielder, who recently signed a six-month deal, told the club's official website: "I'm very happy to sign the extension. "When I got offered six months, I still wanted to hit the ground running. It looks like I've done that to get offered a two-year deal. "I've probably stepped up more knowing I had to perform for a six-month period of time. "I feel I've done well in the first few months of pre-season. But I'll be doing exactly the same, I'll be pushing and pushing to start in the first team. Whether I'm on the bench or coming on, it's for the team."
