Joe Allen says he is unfazed by comparisons to Xavi as he looks to make his mark at Liverpool this season.
Brendan Rodgers likened Allen to Spain and Barcelona legend Xavi when he made the move to Anfield in 2012, but he has struggled to live up to such a billing.
While there have been some difficult moments for the Welsh midfielder during the past couple of years as he has battled to establish himself in the Liverpool side, he believes he is heading in the right direction.
With the team having good momentum, back in quality competition like the Champions League, it is up to me to really make my mark and be part of a success story at this club.
Having helped the Reds finish second in the Premier League last term, Allen is now looking to push on and play a key role in what he hopes will be a successful period.
“It is a big year, but every year is at a club like this,” said the 24-year-old. “You always want to stamp your authority.
“Since day one, that is what I wanted to do. With the team having good momentum, back in quality competition like the Champions League, it is up to me to really make my mark and be part of a success story at this club.”

Allen does not think the Xavi comparison is a psychological burden, adding: "For some people the Xavi comparison could probably be an albatross. It is some player to be compared to. I don’t take things like that too seriously.
“Some people have maybe used that in a negative way, but, from my point of view, you have to look at it as something that should flatter you.
“It should inspire you to become as good as someone like that.
“I certainly felt the performance levels were getting back up to what I expect from myself and a level I can perform at.”
